Responding to Environmental Complexity: A Showcase of UCL Research

We are facing environmental problems that challenge our well-being both within specific communities and globally. It is widely recognised that these are wicked problems arising from the complexity of environmental and socio-environmental systems. Tackling these problems requires research that crosses disciplinary boundaries and breaks down traditional silos in approaching the analysis and resolution of these issues. UCL has been at the forefront of such inter-disciplinary research and has embedded this within its four Grand Challenges of Sustainable Cities, Global Health, Intercultural Interaction and Human Wellbeing. This multi-disciplinary conference – the first in an annual series – aims to showcase the best of the environmental research that is currently being done in the university.

The conference will take place over two days and people are encouraged to drop in to sessions of particular interest to them if they are unable to attend the entire event. There will be a variety of sessions including:

-          Keynote addresses

-          Sessions with 3 or 4 speakers on a common theme

-          Petakuchi sessions with 6-8 presenters

-          Debate between two or three different approaches on a specific topic

There will also be a display area for posters and time for meeting poster presenters during the refreshment breaks.
