This conference, organized by the CNR-Department of Earth and Environment and the Network of Italian Long Term Ecological Research (www.lteritalia.it), is to repeat and stress that the study of biodiversity in its structural and functional aspects, requires constant and alert attention , supported by effective research and management strategies that must be long-term maintained by a far-sighted policy.
