Italian Absolute Offshore Championship 2017

CNR-Isar provides the surface currents forecast on the regatta area

Italian Absolute Offshore Championship 2017

EVENT: Italian Absolute Offshore Championship “Trofeo Stroili” 2017

from 20/06/2017 to 24/06/2017

Where: Yacht Club Hannibal, Monfalcone

On the occasion of the Italian Absolute Offshore Championship “Trofeo Stroili”  2017, which will take place in Monfalcone from 20 to 24 June, the Institute of Marine Sciences of the National Research Council (ISMAR) will provide the surface currents forecast on the regatta area. The maps every 3 hours of the superficial currents will be provided  to the crews within the daily weather bulletin.

The collaboration between the research and the sailing world for CNR-ISMAR is not new, in fact, the institute has already provided the currents forecast in the past sail events: London 2012 Olympic games, Barcolana Trieste 2015, Rio 2016 Olympic games, and European Championship Sportboat Chioggia 2016.

On the occasion of the "Stroil Trophy", CNR-ISMAR researchers Christian Ferrarin and Francesca De Pascalis will use high-resolution coastal hydrodynamic models to integrate equations which regulate the processes of the Adraitic Sea, on the basis of the weather and fluvial influences, to provide a prediction of surface currents, taking into account the complex dynamics of this environmental system. The meteo fields used for current forecasting are provided by the Institute of Atmosphere and Climate of the National Research Council (CNR-ISAC).

Organized by:

Yacht Club Hannibal in collaboration with Municipality of Monfalcone, Società Nautica Laguna, Società Velica Oscar Cosulich and under the aegis of Federazione Italiana Vela (FIV), Unione Vela d’Altura Italiana (UVAI) and Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia.
