On 7 May, the Kick-off meeting of the DuraSoft project - Innovative technologies to improve the durability of traditional wooden structures in socio-ecologically sensitive environments - took place online via Webex.
Funded under the Interreg Italy-Slovenia Program, the project, which involves 7 Italian and Slovenian partners, aims at testing the effectiveness and environmental safety of some innovative techniques and products capable of increasing the durability of local wood species. Softwood is in fact traditionally used for objects and structures used in fishery and agro-pastoral activities within the Alpine-maritime Adriatic area. The acquired durability would make their use economically and ecologically sustainable.
During the Kick off meeting, the rules of the Program were illustrated and the start-up activities were discussed. They foresee the preparation of the woods and the start of the tests aimed both at testing the durability of materials and structures in freshwater, marine and estuarine environments, and to evaluate any environmental impacts through eco-toxicological investigations.
