Experimental marine station (SMS) / Genoa
Starting from 2019 the station is managed by the new INSTITUTE FOR THE STUDY OF ANTHROPICAL IMPACT AND SUSTAINABILITY IN THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT - IAS
The building has an indoor surface of 100 sqm, available for pilot plants and services, a 30 KW electrical system, a drinkable water pipe and a seawater circuit powered by a pump which draws the water at a depth of 2,5 meters, with a 12 liters for minute flow.
A weather station measures in real-time air temperature, solar irradiance, rain rate, wind strength and direction, acquiring data by a computer system.
This information, used by ISMAR Genoa for the ageing tests in marine atmosphere, can be requested by companies and other interested parties.
A floating wharf (8,30x2,40 meters), used for the static immersion of metal and painted samples, is anchored in the sea area in front of the station.
These structures allow the Institute and angencies or companies which make request to do several tests using seawater and to expose samples in standard conditions for natural ageing tests in marine atmosphere (coatings evaluation, corrosion processes study, patinas monitoring).
ISMAR Genoa is also equipped with a pneumatic boat, used for biocide-free paints dynamic tests.
This experimental station belongs to MARS Network - The European Network of Marine Research Institutes and Stations.
