Laurea cum laude in Biological Science, University of Padova (1976). I joined the CNR Institute of Marine Biology (Venice) in 1988 as a researcher. I was promoted to my current position of senior scientist at CNR Institute of Marine Science (ISMAR) in 2005. My research focus is on the ecotoxicology of marine invertebrates, mainly bivalves, and I am particularly interested in their responses to environmental changes caused by both fluctuations in natural parameters (salinity, temperature, pH, etc.) and anthropogenic pollution. In my investigations I use a multidisciplinary approach, from behaviour to tissues and cells, to provide a better understanding of the reactions of organisms to stress, promoting their use as biomarkers of exposure/effects.
