He is a marine biologist with a wide experience of biological and environmental analyses, but also with interests in lagoon management and policy. He studied the biota, physical and chemical characteristics and management of lagoon and coastal systems. His research includes studies on sediments, water quality, zooplankton, intertidal and subtidal benthic communities and fish communities. In many instances, the interactions between these aspects has been investigated, usually in relation to human activities.
- Responsible of the Research Project “Ichtyofaune in the WFD for the Apulia Region”
- Co-ordinator of the Research Project “Metodologies for the management of the nursery areas grounds of juveniles of commercial interest species in the Lesina lagoon” (POR Puglia grant N. 1939/P)
- Responsible of the Research Project “Improvement of the lagoon fish production. Extensive rearing of the shrimp M. japonicus (Bate) in the Lesina lagoon.” (POR Puglia grant N. 1962/P)
- Responsible of the Marine Coastal monitoring Program – transect north Apulia coast (Regione Puglia).
- Research collaboration projects dealing with reproductive biotechnologies, aquaculture and environmental quality evaluation.
- He is member of the Aquaculture Committee of the Italian Society of Marine Biology. He was member of the LaguNet Directive, an association of the researchers studying transitional environment throughout the Mediterranean.
He has produced more than 30 scientific publications on refereed journals (4 of which on ISI), and 3 refereed book chapters on lagoon and marine issues. Moreover, she was author of about 50 congressual contributes.
