The focus of my research is in the area of geophysical fluid dynamics. I have studied many topics in this field ranging from theoretical aspects to more applied topics. In particular I have looked at how certain processes (turbulence and vortices, non-hydrostatic, modeling methods and resolved scales) affect ocean dynamics and marine biogeochemistry (plankton). I have worked to develop both mathematical models and numerical tools for obtaining a greater understanding of geophysical fluid dynamics, particularly the role of vortices, towards understanding how their interactions give rise to turbulence in large-scale geophysical flows.
- Collaborated on the EPSRC funded project "A new twist to rotating stratified turbulence" 2004-2007.
- Collaborated on the SFI funded project "Aggregation segregation and collective motion of swimming organisms and cells in flows", 2007-2008.
- Obtained an IRCSET Research Fellowship on the project "The role of ocean transport processes in the distribution of plankton", 2008-2009.
- Collaborated on the EPSRC project "The structure, stability and interaction of geophysical vortices", 2010-2011.
- Collaborated on the EU FP7 project "Greenseas: Development of global plankton data base and model system for eco-climate early warning", 2011-2014.
- Lectured course on "Geophysical Fluid Dynamics I" for PhD programme in Science and Management of Climate Change, University of Ca'Foscari, Venice, Italy, 2013-2014.
- Collaborated on the RITMARE project, 2014-2017.
- Collaborated on the project "Copernicus Climate Change Serives" under contract ECMWF/COPERNICUS/2017/C3S_422_Lot2, 2017-2019.
