Venice-CSKM Project

Land movements in the Venice Lagoon: measuring the natural/regional and anthropogenic/local components by SAR Interferometric Point Target Analysis (IPTA)”. COSMO-SkyMed AO, Italian Space Agency (ASI).

COSMO-SkyMed Announcement of Opportunity: Demonstration of the COSMO-SkyMed capabilities and exploitation for science and civilian applications. The main objective of the project is the monitoring of land movements in Venice and the surrounding lagoon with a stack of repeat-orbit COSMO-SkyMed acquisitions using differential SAR Interferometry (InSAR) and Interferometric Point Target Analysis (IPTA). The task is of paramount importance in the framework of the geo-hazard risk management of the Venice coastland due to its very low land elevation above mean sea level. The interferometric analysis and outcome interpretation is carried out at regional (i.e. lagoon) scale as well as at local scale (e.g., at the lagoon inlets) to investigate the land subsidence components due to natural factors (e.g., residual sediment consolidation) and to anthropogenic interventions (e.g., the MOSE construction).
